26th August 1899 – Life-boat Saturday in Kings Park

“A demonstration of the RNL Institution in aid of friends, took place on Saturday in Stirling. The weather was bright and warm, nothing occurred to mar the proceedings. A procession gathered at the Kings Park at 3o’clock under the Marshall-ship of Chief Constable Ferguson of the Burgh Police and Chief Constable Sempill, of the County Constabulary. It proceeded by Drummond Place and Southfield into Melville Terrace, then along Park Place, King Street and Spittal Street into St. Johns’ Street, Church Wynd, Broad Street, Bow Street, Baker Street, down Friar Street, along Murray Place and Port Street to the Kings Park. “
“ The cavalcade, viewed by large crowds, was formed as follows;- a “Detachment of police, mounted and on foot, Stirling Brass band; decorated horses; Provost, Magistrates, and Town Council of Stirling; Members of Committee, Stirling Branch of the National Lifeboat Institution; lifeboat drawn by six horses, supplied by Messrs Wordie and Company and manned by local crew; Stirling Fire Brigade; St. Ninian’s Brass band; Forresters Societies – Court of Hope of Snowdon, Court Robert de Bruce, Irish National Forresters, Flowers of the Rock, Lodge of Free Gardeners , Stirling and District Good Templars Lodges, Regimental pipers from Stirling Castle, Shepherds of the Rock, Lodge and district members; Caledonian Railway Ambulance Corp., Salvation Army, Liberty Tent, Independent Order of Rechabites, Bannockburn Brass Band, boating and swimming clubs - with boat; and Boys Brigade; Allan Park Church Mission. “
“Collections in aid of the Lifeboat Institution were taken on the route. On return of the procession to Kings Park, a tug of war took place and a promenade band concert.”
“This is the third Life-boat Saturday , Stirling has had. Mr Andrew Simpson acted as Convener of the Demonstration Committee.”
