My name is Ashley Fenwick and I currently work at Stirling University with students studying to be secondary school geography teachers. Last year, we undertook some initial work with the Smith Art Gallery around decolonising the curriculum. We began to explore some aspects of Stirling’s Uncomfortable Past e.g. links to the trans-Atlantic slave trade. This year I am hoping to build on this initial work in the form of mapping out a walking tour and developing some questions that might be considered linked with each site. Sites might include–paintings, artefacts, landmarks, street names, houses, graves. The long-term hope is that this map could be shared with schools and evolve over time. If any members of Stirling’s Local History Society would be interested in supporting this activity I would be delighted to hear from you. I can be contacted by e-mail: [email protected].Dear Members and Guests Happy New year! Our next lecture will take place on Thursday 30th January, starting at 7:30pm in the Stirling Smith Museum. Dr Murray Cook will present a talk titled 'Stirling's Dead Centre: Tales of the Old Town Cemetery'. Dr Cook is currently working with the society on a book about the cemeteries in the town and anyone who has attended his guided walks in the graveyards will know that we are in for a very interesting evening. Doors open at 7pm and admission for non members is £3. For further information and membership enquiries - email: [email protected] We look forward to seeing you there. ![]()
