13th June 1900 Two Boys Sentenced to Eight Stripes with the Birch Rod
Robert Lawson aged 12 and William Coyle aged 11, appeared before Sheriff Substitute Yellowlees and were sentenced to receive 8 stripes with the birch rod for setting fire to a stack of hay valued at £60 at Kings Park Farm.
“The boys had” apparently” made their bed in the stack for the night and pulled out some hayto make a fire. A spark from the blaze set fire to the stack, which was destroyed. The loss was insured”
