Snowy view of Airthrey Loch, 1958
To give some idea of the archives available for access, we highlight an example below.
PHOTOGRAPH OF AIRTHREY LOCH BY WILLIAM STEEL, 1958
This snowy view of Airthrey Loch in 1958 was taken by William Steel, Provost of Bridge of Allan from 1959 to 1962 and co-founder of the Dr Welsh Trust. Mr Steel was a keen photographer and as well as taking some stunning views of the locality around Bridge of Allan, he also developed, enlarged and printed his own prints. Mr Steel gifted a fine set of his photographs to the Welsh Trust and these are now cared for at Stirling Council Archives. Together, they provide a wonderful record of the area in the 1950s. The Trust in partnership with the Archives are hoping to
have these and other photographs held as part of their collection digitised and
made available more widely on the website that the Trust is planning.
The Dr Welsh Trust collection is available for the public to view at the Council Archives and at Bridge of Allan Library. For information regarding access, please ask staff at the Archives or Library for further information.
