National Organisations and Resources
National Archives of Scotland
The NAS holds major manuscript collections and other information relevant to Stirling and the area including some of the burgh registers of sasines, sheriff court records, valuation rolls, estate papers (including estate plans), testaments and many more.
National Library of Scotland
The NLS holds a huge collection of books, extensive manuscript collections and an internationally-important collection of maps, many of which can now be viewed on-line. Another very valuable resource for those with an NLS Reader's Ticket and an address in Scotland is access to digital versions of such series as Dictionary of National Biography, Nineteenth Century British Newspapers and the British Parliamentary Papers in digitally searchable format; register for that via the NLS website.

Historic Environment Scotland
Scotland’s national body for recording the physical remains of the past including buildings and archaeological sites. The excellent website provides a wealth of information with links and references for further work.
