Film Event at Macrobert Centre on 13th October

7/10/2015

This event - you need to book a seat at the MacRobert - looks interesting. It will show films made in and about Scots towns (including Stirling) in the past.

You can find more details here.

Shona Thomson writes;

Made in My Toun is part of Britain on Film, a major project from the BFI National Archive, Regional and National Archives and rights holders from across the UK that reveals new and unseen stories of our lives through the history of film. As part of a major programme of digitisation, which started in 2012 and continues until the end of 2017, Britain on Film offers ways to discover, explore and engage with the newly digitised films: www.bfi.org.uk/britain-on-film.

For the Stirling event, I'll be screening four films including one called 'The Heart of Scotland' which is specific to Stirling and its environs being commissioned by the County Council of the County of Stirling in 1965.  After the screening, there will be an informal panel/audience discussion chaired by me.  Filmmaker Eddie McConnell will also be on the panel as the cinematographer of The Heart of Scotland.  Eddie is described by his peers as 'one of the finest documentary cameramen in the world'.  From his early films as an amateur, mentored by John Grierson, then into the production industry, Eddie's work across 50 years represents the best of documentary filmmaking in Scotland.  As the director of a large number of films sponsored by I've asked Eddie along to talk about the motivations of the sponsors and how he and the crew interpreted these to produce the film representations of the city.
