One of our members is interested in the origin of this name. It is apparently recorded in a charter in the 1720s - but enquiries in Archives and locally have so far failed to turn up firm information.
There may have been some connection with the Society of Friends or with Quaker meetings being held there - though it would be unusual to commemorate a group who were still liable to persecution.
Any thoughts - even better, any firm records -would be appreciated.
