Bob Will of Guard Archaeology will speak about the dig and the monastery at this month's meeting. It is on 31st March at 7.30 in the Smith Art Gallery and Museum, free to members and with the usual modest charge for visitors.
This was an important Stirling institution for 300 years. The site had been identified by James Ronald, over a century ago and a segment of the site was investigated by Ron and Cathy Page, twenty years ago. The Pages established the main historical trajectory and identified the lands belonging to the institution as well as excavating parts of the church itself; this more recent dig, in advance of the development of much of the site, had access to a much larger area. So, this should be a fascinating talk.
